Transjordan (Bible) : ウィキペディア英語版 | Transjordan (Bible)
The Transjordan ((ヘブライ語:עבר הירדן), ) is an area of land in the Southern Levant lying east of the Jordan River. It is defined in the Hebrew Bible as part of the land of Israel (), specifically as the area allocated to the Israelite tribes of Reuben and Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh. The remaining nine and a half tribes received their inheritance on the other side of the Jordan. ==Etymology== The prefix ''trans-'' is Latin and means "across" or beyond, so "Transjordan" refers to the land ''on the other side of'' the Jordan River. The equivalent Latin term for the west side is the ''Cisjordan'' - literally, "on this side of the () Jordan". The term used in Hebrew for the Transjordan is (), "beyond the Jordan", occurring, for example, in Joshua (). It was therefore used by people on the west side of the Jordan, including the biblical writers.
